Who’s Who

Meet Our Vicar

Rev’d Yin-An (Ian) Chen 陳胤安

(Please don’t worry about how to pronounce his name — most people simply call him Ian.)

Yin-An has been Vicar of St Luke’s Whyteleafe (in plurality with St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Chaldon) since January 2026.

He grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, and has served churches in London, Shropshire, and the Welsh borders before coming to Whyteleafe. Most recently, he was Associate Vicar at St John-at-Hampstead Parish Church in North London. Before ordination, he had also served in churches in central London, Putney, and villages outside Cambridge.

Before training for ordained ministry at Westcott House, Yin-An studied theology and philosophy at universities in Durham and Kent. His academic interests include postmonderism, spirituality, political theology, and the interpretation of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament).

Alongside parish ministry, Yin-An regularly serves at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square. He also serves as a trustee of  Inclusive Church and Open Table Network.

Outside church life, Yin-An enjoys walking and hiking (when it’s not too muddy), watching films, and reading — usually far too many academic books. His partner, Tim, volunteers with Citizens Advice.

He’s always happy to chat — whether about faith, films, theology, walking routes, or where to find good coffee. His email: [email protected]
